Black Koi FAQ
-As always, all surfaces will be disinfected before and after you arrive
-Clients are encouraged to bring a mask, but not required. If you are sick, please use common sense to stay home if you are not feeling well and we can always reschedule!
How do I set up an appointment?
To set up an appointment with Heather, please click on the 'CONTACT' button at the top of the page. From there, you can directly submit a consultation form. Please be very thorough in answering questions, as this will help cut out the time it takes of back and forth messaging to better explain what work you are wanting done.
What happens next?
Please be patient! Heather will receive and go over your consult and get back to you asap with any questions and will go over when her availability is. Please have your ($100) deposit ready to send via PayPal/Venmo. Otherwise, she will set up a time prior to booking if you prefer to leave a cash/card deposit instead. Deposits are collected before dates are selected or any drawing is started. Please do not send card info over email.
* PLEASE CHECK OUT THE LIST OF COMMON QUESTIONS BELOW BEFORE MESSAGING*
How much do tattoos cost?
Tattoos vary in cost depending on size, placement, and detail in the design. My shop minimum is $100 with the exception of my custom drawn flash that may be going for a discounted rate.
When you fill out the consult, you will either select 'Half Day' or 'Full Day' session. Half days are between 1-4 hours and full days are 5-8 hours. My rate is $150 an hour. Even if your tattoo isn't as long as an entire full or half day, please plan for the max amount of each session depending on whichever you choose. I will still quote by the hour, but this will help with scheduling purposes and to help you plan ahead for the amount to bring to the session! Occasionally, tattoos may take longer or shorter than expected, but if this happens, I will let you know and we can always schedule another sit! Half days start at 12pm or 4pm and full days start at 12pm!
Deposits?
Please only send deposits if your project has been accepted. Deposits are $100 and are required before any art is started or dates picked for the tattoo appointment. I accept PayPal, Venmo, or in person cash or card via Square. Deposits are non-refundable but will be taken off the total tattoo price at the end of the session. Deposits are only for the day you are booking for and do not get bumped to a new appointment. If you need to reschedule, I will only transfer the deposit once, but I must be given a 24hour notice before the appointment. If it is a no call, no show, or less than 24 hours, the deposit will be lost and a new one will be needed before another appointment is set. We understand family emergencies, sickness, and life happens and try to work with you! You will have 2 days from your original appointment time to contact us to reconfirm future dates if you need to miss (if you have multiple deposits set). If we do not hear from you, all future appointments will be cancelled, and all deposits forfeited. Please note that dates will be sent after deposit(s) are received. When you have sent a deposit, please verify with us to make sure it has gone through!

What style of tattoos does Heather do?
My style ranges from Illustrative Neotraditional, Neo Japanese, and New School style. I accept a wide range of tattoos because I do enjoy the variety! It is important to know though, that if you send me a picture, I will not copy it exactly, but I am willing to redesign something similar and it will have my own 'style' in it. Please check out my gallery to make sure you enjoy the look of my style! Certain things like specific characters in a video game or other instances may be the only exception to this. Also, even though I accept a wide variety, if you are looking for mandala/henna style, very thin/fine line or dainty, or hyper-realistic portraits/color realism, I may politely suggest another artist :)

What should I bring to my tattoo appointment?
The day of the tattoo, make sure you have eaten a good meal beforehand. Tattoos put stress on the body and a good meal will help prep the body for what it is about to endure and will keep your blood sugar up! Bring a state issued ID (Personal gov't issued ID, Drivers license, Military ID, Green Card, or Passport are all examples of acceptable Id). Wear comfortable clothing that will not get in the way of your tattoo and that you may not mind getting ink on just in case. You can also bring headphones, a book, pillow, small snacks like a granola bar/fruit snacks, water, or whatever else you can think of that you may need to make your visit more enjoyable! Food must be eaten in the waiting area. However, PLEASE DO NOT bring small children. My studio is very small, and I have delicate objects and glass that does not make a good environment for extended amounts of time for them there.
Can I see art beforehand?
I am no longer sending art before appointment days. I usually do not work on art until the weekend before or up to the day before the appointment. Please be thorough in your consult and send alot of references and check out my portfolio to make sure you enjoy my style or enough references to give me a clear idea of what you are looking for. You are definitely able to see the art when you come in for your appointment. If there are changes that need to be made, we can make them during your appointment before you get tattooed. You are also welcome to dislike the design and refuse it, but if we cannot make changes for the appointment, we can always reschedule. If this is the case, I will transfer this deposit only once. If you still decide to refuse the art, the deposit will be lost, but at this point, I may suggest another artist.
Do you accept walk ins?
At this very moment, I am appointment only. The best way to find out if I am available to fill out a consult form under the 'CONTACT' tab above.
How do I get ahold of you?
For faster replies, you can send me a quick message on my shop Facebook page, but ultimately if you want to book, please fill out the consult form on my website under 'CONTACT'.
What do you accept for payment?
Cash is always preferred, but I also accept:
-Card (via Square in person only. Please do not email me card numbers as I cannot type them in)
-Paypal (select the friends and family option and send it to: blackkoistudio@gmail.com)
-Venmo (please send to: @BlackKoiStudio)
How do I take care of my new tattoo?
Please scroll to the top of the page, click on the 'AFTERCARE' tab, and select the appropriate aftercare you are looking for!
Do you do piercings?
Unfortunately, I no longer offer piercings at the studio as of October 2021
